Our innovative chemistry curriculum empowers students with critical thinking and scientific reasoning skills to take on complex problems.

Chemistry majors have access to interactive lab equipment and the most common instrumentation to examine qualitative and quantitative data – all the while studying the societal and ethical aspects of modern science. Just as important as discovering solutions to important problems, you will learn to effectively communicate the results of your experiments in writing and presentations. The result: 100% of our chemistry majors are employed in the field or pursuing a graduate degree within six months of graduating.

This is why we offer the Marie Curie Scholars Program, a prestigious program that provides significant financial support and resources for academically talented young women interested in biology, chemistry or mathematics. Career Outlook

With your chemistry degree, you will be qualified to work in research as a chemist or lab technician or to pursue advanced education in the field. Chemists earn a median annual salary of $72,350. The U.S. Department of Labor anticipates a 3-7 percent growth in demand for chemists by 2022. You could also pursue opportunities as a technical writer, taking complex scientific information and research and writing about it for publications and journals. Technical writers earn a median annual salary of $67,900 and the U.S. Department of Labor predicts that the demand for technical writers will grow by 15-21 percent by 2022.

Students Engage in Meaningful Research

Evelyn, is a chemistry major and a forensic science minor, found her passion in research. 

Evelyn has gained experience working in a lab doing pharmaceutical research for cancer at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. The research has heightened her interest in chemistry.

“That’s something I want to do for the rest of my life,” Evelyn said, adding that she hopes to work in a lab following graduation and eventually seek her PhD.
